Hello I'm Caroline.
I live just outside Edinburgh in the lovely village of Cousland, Midlothian.
In my previous working life, I worked with people with learning difficulties and / or mental health issues, managing a busy city family centre, a rural gardening / environment project and I specialised in working with folk with dementia. So I don't get ruffled easily!
I love people and their stories, and I think that I have the best job in the world. I get to help people to talk about love and find words to express it, every day!
Although I was born and raised in Edinburgh, I love living in Midlothian, close to the excitement of Edinburgh, right in the middle of the lovely Lothians and just next to the stunning Scottish Borders. I live with my partner and we have two kids who still seem to cost us a packet despite having left home! We also have a couple of dogs and cats, so it’s a busy household to say the least. When I’m not working I actually do like spending time with them!
I also love playing music (I play a few different instruments and sing locally) and I also love to read when I get a minute, which isn't as often as I'd like.
I love my job as a Humanist Celebrant, it's a total privilege to be involved with people during some of the most important times of their lives. I have gained lots of experince through the many hundred ceremonies I've conducted over the many years which means that I always have lots of ideas and being calm under pressure is really important on the day.
I'd be delighted to have a chat about your ideas and maybe add some of my own.
Please feel free to get in touch (with no obligation), I'd love to hear from you.
You can see more on my website.
or on social media (listed below) where you can see photos and videos from some of the ceremonies that I've conducted.

Wedding & Civil Partnership Ceremonies
Whether you’re getting married on a beach or in a castle, just the two of you or 200 guests, you want your ceremony to suit you as a couple and be an amazing part of your day.
That’s where I come in. It’s my job (and my pleasure!) to help you with a ceremony that really reflects who you are.
I’d love to meet up, chat over Skype / Facetime or email – whichever suits you best, and we'll start talking about ideas around your ceremony. (Don't worry if you have no idea where to start, I can help with that too!) If you would like to work with me, I will then begin writing your ceremony Your input to this will make it a perfect fit.- romantic, funny, traditional, contemporary, relaxed, it's your choice. (This is what makes Humanist weddings so personal and results in the wonderful feedback that I get from the lovely people I marry. Please see some comments below.)
Your ceremony could be about your stories and promises in your own words, so I’ll ask you to do some homework, and unlike school, it will be FUN! If you'd rather, I can do most of the writing for you, (you have got a wedding to plan after all) so I'll ask you to answer some questions about you, so that I can make this really personal and meaningful. Basically I'm really flexible and happy to work around you with what you want in the planning and writing, and within the ceremony itself. You get more personal ceremonies that way!
It is always amazing to create a ceremony with you, often starting with a few ideas or a blank page and then on the day, to see everyone's reactions to the words that we've written. It's an amazing process, and one that I always enjoy.
There are lots of lovely touches that can help with this, for instance you might want to get friends and family involved in a reading or a poem for you, or want a ceremonial gesture like a handfasting, jumping the broom or drinking from a quaich. I will help you to think your way through lots of choices the options and can make lots of suggestions about readings, poems, music and also how to involve the people you love in your ceremony if that's something you'd like. Again, I'm happy to work around what couples want or help them to work out what they want!
As we go along I’ll also keep you on track with what needs to be done (and when), and keep things running smoothly on your big day.
A great thing about working with a Registered HSS celebrant is that I can marry you virtually anywhere, from a beach to a castle, hotel to a back garden and most places in between. Whether it's a fabulous beach or a rustic barn, somewhere beautiful and classic or a romantic, historic castle, I love all the wonderful places where I've married people, and I look forward to hearing all about your plans and ideas.
You might have to worry about who to sit next to Great Uncle Hubert, but you WON’T have to worry about having a great ceremony that you and your guests will remember always!
I’d love to have a chat with you, so please get in touch.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Naming & Welcoming Ceremonies
People have been celebrating and welcoming their babies and children into their families and communities for thousands of years. This is a wonderful opportunity to become part of that great tradition.
As a mum myself and with a background in working with people, I know how important celebrating milestones are.
There are many lovely ways to make a celebration personal and meaningful for you, and I’d love to talk with you about this.
You can see more about this on my website.
Please give me a ring or drop me an email and we can talk about it further.
Once we have made contact, we'll arrange a time and place that are convenient for you. We'll talk generally about the outline of the ceremony and I'll try to answer any questions that you may have. We’ll then take a wee while to think about music or poems that may have meant something in the life of your loved one.
IWe'll then spend some time chatting about the deceased, and I'll take notes which I'll use to write the personal tribute (eulogy) that I'll deliver on the day. I'll help by asking you questions which will help. This will be sad, and might be difficult, but it can often be a happy time too where you share stories and memories of your time together. I will then write a ceremony which is in keeping with how you want to celebrate your loved one’s life.
I will send you the full ceremony and tribute for comments, corrections, etc, and then prepare a final version which will be presented ‘on the day.’ Friends and family are most welcome and supported where possible, to participate in the ceremony through writing memories to share, reading their own words or a particular poem, or by playing a musical instrument or sharing a song.
On the day of the funeral I will meet and greet the family and mourners, and present the ceremony as we have agreed, managing the proceedings and supporting you throughout.
