Celebrant profile:

Ian McLean

Ceremonies performed: Weddings, Naming Ceremonies, Funerals

Hey there! I’m Ian McLean - thank you for taking a look at my profile! Whether this is the best of days - If you’re getting married or thinking of a naming ceremony - or a more difficult day, if you’ve lost someone, I'd love to see if I could help.

I’m an accountant working in Local Government although I’ve been told a few times I’m the most unaccountant accountant folk have met which I hope is a compliment! I live in Erskine with my wife and I’ve played pretty much every sport there is that has a ball (and some that don’t!) and I’m a very keen golfer and love being part of a club in Barrhead and the friendships I have there. My Family is so important to me. I’ve a good sense of humour; I love to laugh but never at others expense.

Humanism for me is a positive outlook on life, the full spectrum of life, to take our stand and make the very best of this one life we have, finding our own way and meaning. Equality is a big part of why I’m doing what I’m doing, i love living in a country where you can marry who you love.

I also love that being a humanist celebrant is about people, their stories – your stories, the important ones, the funny ones, the ones that make your life. It’s the things that make you, well, you! It would be brilliant to share your story and celebrate your story or the story of a loved one.

Please, get in touch if you’d like to chat or grab a coffee sometime to speak about your ceremony, I would absolutely love to hear from you.

Wedding & Civil Partnership Ceremonies

What a brilliant thing when two people are happy to say “that’s it, it’s me and you against the world and I’m going nowhere” I love that! For me this is the best of us and what a tremendous thing for me to be able to be a wee part of your day, to do everything I can to make it your day, your way. It would be tremendous to hear from you.

Naming & Welcoming Ceremonies

What's in a name? It is with us throughout our life, to call us for tea, maybe in warning after the odd broken window! It can be the celebration of a new family, or as an adult it can be a sign of a new beginning, a declaration of who we are. I'd love to be part of this special day with you, working with you to get things just the way you'd like, your day, your way.

Feedback from a previous ceremony :
“ Ian did our son’s naming day and made me and my boyfriend feel welcomed and really made an effort to get to know us as a family. Ian looked smart and made the effort to meet all of our family. He made our day memorable and everyone has commented on how good the ceremony was. I would highly recommend Ian. We will be using him in the future and would recommend to my friends and family! Thanks Ian for a great day!”

Funeral Ceremonies

For me, to be able to help shape your loved ones funeral, around your memories of them, celebrate the life they have lived - however long life has been - and the people who have shared that life, the laughter and love, achievements, and more difficult times, is an enormous privilege and I don’t take it lightly.
I will do my best working with you to make sure you are completely happy with things, sharing with family and friends your special thoughts, any poems or words you have and perhaps memorable music. Death is an end to life not love and my personal hope is - that I can bring a wee drop of hope and comfort at what can be the most difficult of times.
