Celebrant profile:
Janet Hamilton
Thanks so much for looking at my profile. I am originally a Glaswegian but now love living just 30 miles away in Ayr,. I am so privileged to have been a Humanist Celebrant for over a decade. I have had the pleasure of conducting a wide variety of very different weddings, naming and funeral ceremonies, in so many different locations, over this time. I get so much satisfaction and reward from working closely with couples and families, to help put together bespoke ceremonies for these significant events . It is a privilege to work with them to tailor and deliver ceremonies that are personal and meaningful, and which are delivered with warmth, sincerity, love, and where appropriate, often lots of laughter.
If you want a ceremony that is formal or traditional I'm maybe not the celebrant for you. I would describe my style as informal, relaxed and light hearted, without losing sight of the significance of the event.
I have had a varied career which involved working with, supporting and advising people from a wide variety of backgrounds to achieve their life, work and learning potential. I first thought of becoming a celebrant after writing and conducting the tributes at my own parents' funerals several years ago.
I live in Ayr with my husband John, who is also a wedding celebrant, sometimes joined by son Andrew (when he is skint!). I love living near the sea, walking along the shore, something I try to do every day possible. I am happy to travel across the south west, the central belt and sometimes beyond, for all types of ceremonies!

Wedding & Civil Partnership Ceremonies
Bringing eleven years of experience to the table, I know that your ceremony should be a very important part of your big day. It sets the tone for the rest of the celebrations. It should be enjoyable, interesting and relaxed, with quite a bit of humour throughout. I just love working with couples of all ages and from all sorts of backgrounds. Every couple is unique and I will work with you to help put together a ceremony that clearly reflects you and has your stamp on it.
I want to help you and your guests to celebrate your love for one another, what has brought you there to commit to each other, and the hopes you have for your future as a couple. . I will also advise, and help you to decide on what you might want to include within the ceremony e.g. symbolic gestures such as handfasting, readings, music and genuinely personal vows.. Above all. it should be a celebration of your love for, and commitment to, one another, engaging yourselves and your guests, with lots of laughter, (and maybe even a few happy wee ''greets) along the way.
Many of my wedding ceremonies have had a Scottish or Celtic theme, although I have also conducted many where we have blended this with, or reflected, other cultures and traditions. Although I am based in Ayr, I am happy to travel anywhere across the South West of Scotland, Glasgow and the Central Belt, and frequently beyond. I have conducted weddings in locations from castles to cottages, to beaches and everywhere in between. Please feel free to contact me if you wish to have a chat about any aspect of what I hope will be your own incredible ceremony!
Naming & Welcoming Ceremonies
I believe Naming and Welcoming Ceremonies are a wonderful way of welcoming and celebrating a new, or sometimes not always so new, life. Names are important too as they are the word or words by which we are recognised throughout our lives. I wish they had existed when my own son was born, as it would have been so good to formally celebrate his arrival. I like the way they are completely personalised to fit with parents' wishes, and can be fairly traditional or as informal and fun as the family would like. I feel privileged to work with parents and guide parents to help them to decide on or compose promises and pledges, and incorporate gestures, readings and even music, as they feel appropriate. As with weddings, the ceremony should be light hearted and a true celebration that guests, including other children, will enjoy and engage with.
I would love to discuss taking a Naming Ceremony for your child. or children!
Funeral Ceremonies
I have conducted many funeral ceremonies over the past eleven years. I hope that families got some genuine comfort from a ceremony that has been warm and sincere, and a genuine reflection of their person they have lost, perhaps even with some laughter, where appropriate.
Wherever possible, a funeral should be a celebration of a loved ones life and reflect on how they have touched on others' lives. My funerals are, tailored to reflect the wishes of close family and friends, and, above all, the life story and character of the person they have lost. Meeting loved ones, helping them to talk about their loved one, and then writing and delivering a script that genuinely captures the deceased's story, and the essence of who they were, is so important. I find it personally very rewarding to deliver a ceremony which I feel has achieved all this.
