Ceremonies performed: Weddings, Naming Ceremonies, Funerals

Hi! Finding the right Humanist Celebrant is a big decision, and I’m here to make that journey a little easier. Let me tell you a bit about myself so you can get to know me better.
I’m based in Newtonhill, just outside Aberdeen, where I live in a cosy old fishing cottage with my partner Stuart and our dog, Hector.

When I’m not spending time with my loved ones, I’m busy writing. Whether it’s for ceremonies, personal reflection, or poetry, it’s something I absolutely love to do. It’s this passion for writing that allows me to create ceremonies that are meaningful, heartfelt, and truly personal.

I love hearing people’s stories and learning about their lives. I’ve had the privilege of creating and delivering original poems for weddings and funerals, helping to bring an extra layer of emotion and connection to these special moments.

I joined Humanist Society Scotland because I believe in their values and the important work they do. I’m delighted to now be part of the HSS Celebrant team. I’m here to help families through some of life’s most difficult times, as well as celebrate moments of love, joy, and fun.

I would love to hear more about your story and how I can help create a ceremony that’s just as special as the moments you’re marking.
You can find me on Instagram and Facebook (where Hector often makes an appearance, he’s quite the social media star) or you can drop me an email or call for an informal chat.

Wedding & Civil Partnership Ceremonies

Your wedding day should be as unique as you are as a couple, so finding the right celebrant is really important. You want someone who gets your vibe, listens to your ideas, and helps shape a ceremony that’s full of heart (and maybe a few laughs too).

With so many choices out there, it can all feel a bit overwhelming but that’s where I come in. I’m here to help guide you through it all, chat through any ideas or questions you’ve got, and make sure your ceremony feels just right.

Whether you’re dreaming of something simple and romantic or planning a full-on themed celebration - Star Wars, Taylor Swift, Disney, Lord of the Rings, Western (I do love a bit of country!) - I’m totally up for it. And if you’re after something more traditional, I love creating those ceremonies too.

Fancy a handfasting, sand blending, unity candle or a sip from the quaich? Maybe a Doric or Scottish blessing, or even a brand-new tradition you’ve invented together? You get to choose how much or how little you include in your ceremony.

Basically, I’m here to do the legal bits, keep things running smoothly, and make sure everyone has an unforgettable time in the process.

If you think we’d be a good fit, I’d love to have a blether about your plans - drop me a wee note and we can have an informal chat about how I can help.

Naming & Welcoming Ceremonies

There are many ways to welcome a life, honour a journey or mark a new beginning.

While they’re often chosen as a non-religious alternative to a christening, they can be created for anyone, at any age, and for all sorts of reasons.

Whether you’re welcoming a new baby, celebrating an adoption or blended family, supporting someone through their transition, or marking a fresh chapter in life, a naming ceremony is a chance to celebrate who someone truly is.

There’s no “right” way to do it either. Your ceremony can be emotional, joyful, relaxed, funny, meaningful or a little bit of everything.

My role is to help shape a ceremony that feels personal, genuine, and full of heart, one that leaves you all with memories to hold onto for years to come.

Funeral Ceremonies

Planning a funeral can be an incredibly overwhelming experience, and it’s vital that your loved one’s life story is shared with genuine compassion, warmth, and respect.
For me, there’s nothing better than when someone says ‘that was just them’ when you describe someone during a funeral. Your loved one should be both recognised and remembered. It’s my role to make sure that essence of them is captured and that their personality shines through as you say goodbye to them.

As a celebrant, I see it as my responsibility to really listen, understand and to support you in planning a ceremony that truly reflects your loved one. While it’s natural to feel the weight of your loss, it’s equally important to hold onto those happy, loving memories. A funeral is a time to honour both the sadness and the joy, and my goal is to help create a ceremony that celebrates their life in a meaningful way.
