Ceremonies performed: Weddings, Naming Ceremonies, Funerals

Hi, I'm Linda and I conduct non-religious Weddings, Funerals and Naming & Welcoming Ceremonies throughout Scotland. I grew up in Australia but as my surname suggests, I’ve always had a strong Scottish connection and of all the places I’ve stayed, I can honestly say that my heart (and now my life) lies in Scotland. It’s without a doubt the best move I've ever made. As a keen hillwalker, I never tire of heading off the beaten track in my VW 'combi' campervan knowing I've always got a bed! For me, there's no such thing as 'too remote' a venue when it comes to celebrating your special occasion.

With a background in social work and the law, I've worked with people from all walks of life, representing their interests both at work and in the community. When it comes to marking life's big moments, I take my role seriously. Being a Humanist Celebrant is a privilege and I would be delighted to work with you to produce a warm and uniquely personal ceremony to celebrate the important events in your life.

Wedding & Civil Partnership Ceremonies

Civil Partnerships and Weddings are such fabulous occasions; each is unique, just like you and your partner! For such an important day in your lives choosing a celebrant you feel comfortable with is important. I can help you craft a ceremony that reflects who you are and why you're so good together. Whether you have in mind a formal, traditional ceremony or something more informal, relaxed...themed or quirky, I can help you turn your dream day into a reality. Thoughtful, sincere and uniquely personal, your ceremony will make you and the people you love, smile.

If you'd like to find out more...I'm happy to meet with you for an informal, no obligation, chat. Most couples come to my home where we can all relax over coffee and share ideas for your big day, but if you'd prefer to Zoom/FaceTime/WhatsApp or chat on Messenger, that's fine too.

Naming & Welcoming Ceremonies

Humanist Naming & Welcoming ceremonies are delightful, inclusive and fun occasions that bring your family and friends together in ways that are unique to you.

They provide an ideal opportunity for you to celebrate the birth of a baby, welcome the arrival of an adopted child or mark the transition from childhood to adolescence. The coming together of two established families or a step-parent joining the family are also occasions to be celebrated and a Humanist Welcoming ceremony can be a great way to symbolise your new beginning. If you are in gender transition, changing your name is perhaps one of the most meaningful steps you will take in the journey to fully express and validate your identity. Whatever your circumstances, a naming or welcoming ceremony allows you to publicly affirm your commitment to a child or loved one while recognising the important contribution of friends and extended family members and appoint people as guide parents or mentors to provide additional love and support.

I’d be delighted to help you create a Naming or Welcoming ceremony, one that reflects your circumstances, your aspirations, your views and wishes - making it a day that you will always remember!

To get the ball rolling I will meet with you, glean your thoughts and bounce around some ideas. If you need suggestions I can advise you on non-religious content, including the wording of promises and pledges, choice of readings and music as well as symbolic gestures such as sand blending, tree planting or candle lighting, etc. With the information you provide, I will produce a ceremony for your consideration and approval. Together we will make sure that your ceremony is everything you would like it to be.

On the day itself, I will arrive early to help you set up, meet your key guests and settle any nerves. I am not in the least bit phased by excitable children, technical hitches or overrunning timescales. For me, it’s all about the people involved and, of course, conducting a ceremony that really represents your wishes, in the presence of your friends and family.

Funeral Ceremonies

The death of someone close is both painful and sad so it’s important that the tribute to their life is as fitting, warm and memorable as it possibly can be. My role is to help you create a ceremony that not only allows you to say your final farewells but also honours and celebrates the life of the person who has died. This might include, playing their favourite music, recalling some of the funny stories that capture the essence of their character or simply remembering some of the good times you shared. Together we will create a truly meaningful, heartfelt ceremony, without religious content, which I will then deliver on your behalf.

Most often, it’s the funeral director who will invite me to conduct a ceremony on your behalf, but you may contact me directly at any time to discuss arrangements. If you’re planning a memorial ceremony and would like to talk about how you might celebrate the life of a loved one, feel free to give me a call.
