Ceremonies performed: Weddings, Naming Ceremonies

I live with my family in Aboyne, Aberdeenshire, nestled between the flowing water of the River Dee and the dramatic hills of the Cairngorms.

Having had a humanist wedding with my husband in 2012, and then naming ceremonies for both of our children, I’ve experienced first-hand the immense satisfaction that comes from working with a celebrant to create a ceremony that is truly personal and unique. I’ve also had the pleasure of attending humanist ceremonies for friends and family, and have always come away delighted to find that I’ve learned something new about them, despite having known them for years. That’s the beauty of a humanist ceremony.

These experiences, combined with a love of writing, meeting people, event planning and public speaking from my previous career as a scientific consultant, inspired me to become a humanist celebrant. I love working with couples and families to create tailor-made ceremonies that not only share and celebrate their individual stories, but also remain reflective of their personalities and core values.

In my spare time, you’ll often find me down by the river enjoying a wild swim or throwing pebbles with my children. I enjoy yoga and pilates, as well as walking in the forests, hiking in the hills, and cycling along the Deeside Way – as long as there’s a pit stop along the way for cake and a cuppa! I have a spirit for adventure, having travelled extensively, from Australasia and South East Asia, to Central America and beyond; there’s plenty more on my list of places to see.

In me, you’ll find someone warm and caring, with a high attention to detail and a gentle sense of humour.

Naming & Welcoming Ceremonies

There are few events more life-changing than the arrival of a new family member, bringing with it much excitement and happiness, as well as moments of uncertainty. As a mum of two young children, I’m still very much ‘in the thick of it’, and know only too well the need to go with the flow (it is, after all, rarely us adults at the helm!).

A naming ceremony is a wonderful way to welcome a child into your life, providing the opportunity to celebrate their arrival with your family and friends in a way that’s truly meaningful. It can be as formal or informal an event as you like, incorporating promises, guide parents, music, and other gestures to mark the occasion.

I’ll work with you to create a unique and personal ceremony, incorporating all of the elements that are important to you and your family.
