Celebrant profile:
Shona Sharp
I live in Oban, Argyll with my husband and two dogs and also have two grown up sons. I love music, books and spending time with my family. I am originally from Glasgow and moved to Oban over 30 years ago. The West of Scotland has been a wonderful place to bring up my sons with its fresh air, beautiful scenery and stunning sunsets.
I have been a member of the Humanist Society Scotland for several years and I am also a volunteer with the Non-Religious Pastoral Support Network. For the last 22 years I have been involved in childcare and education and I am currently a teacher. Working with children, young people and their families has been so much fun but has also, at times, been challenging and emotional. However, ups and downs are all part of life and I see it as a privilege to be able share the ups in people’s lives as well as being a support during the downs.
To me, Humanism is about respecting one another and the world we live in. It focuses on the things, like love and compassion, that bring us together rather than the things that divide us. Values that we all share, regardless of our beliefs, and which make for strong, loving bonds within a family, a community and the world.

Wedding & Civil Partnership Ceremonies
I believe a wedding ceremony should be as special and unique as each relationship is. Your wedding should reflect values and traditions important to you. This could be from where you get married whether that be in a hotel, on a beach, up a hill or in your living room, to special poems, songs and symbolic gestures. You may also have an idea of the type of ceremony you want - traditional, serious, fun or a mixture of all.
As your celebrant, I can help you create your own unique ceremony, the memories of which you will treasure forever.
Please fell free to contact me if you have any questions and if you would like, we can meet face to face or via Facebook/Skype etc.
Naming & Welcoming Ceremonies
Welcoming and Naming ceremonies are a wonderful way to celebrate a new addition to your family whether that be a new baby, an older child or an adopted child. They are a unique, personal and non-religious alternative to a traditional christening.
I can help you create your own personal ceremony which is a wonderful way to show your love and commitment that can be looked back at in years to come.
The ceremony can take place wherever you like, and you can be as creative as you like; you may have a style or theme in mind. You might want to include roles for grandparents, guide parents, friends or other family members as well as including special songs, poems and symbolic gestures such as a memory box or a sand ceremony.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or would like a chat about arranging a Welcoming and Naming Ceremony.
